"Robert and Elizabeth" presents the intimate and intensely moving drama of Elizabeth Barrett's secret romance with Robert Browning, their daring escape from her controlling father, and their life in Italy of joy and sorrow. It is based on real events and emotions gleaned from the letters of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. "Robert and Elizabeth" was performed at the Belrose Theatre in San Rafael, California in the Spring of 2017 as a new piece in progress. Directed by both Roberta Palumbo and the actor, Molly McCarthy, it is the culmination of a year's work of transforming Roberta Palumbo's play into dramatic action.
