    Hello, everybody!

In session II, it was decided that we are going to work with persuasive essays. Now it's time to start our writing process.

The first thing you need to do is to think of a topic you'd like to talk about. Reflect thoroughly on your topic as it will accompany you throughout our course.

So here is your assignment for this week: In order to help you find the best idea for your essay, take the steps below:

    1) Read the text uploaded here taken from "A writer's coach",  a writing guide by Jack Hart (from page 8 to 16).

    2) Do one or some of the brainstorming exercises suggested by Hart in his text or one of the brainstorming ideas in the file "8 Brainstorming Strategies..."

    3) Bring to session III (Aug, 19th) the brainstorming draft as well as your idea for the essay.

    4) In class, you will be required to discuss your brainstorming session(s) and the idea for your essay with your peers. After that, you will write a theme statement (instructions on the theme statement will be given in class).

The success of our next class depends on your taking these steps!

    See you next week!

    Hello, everybody!

In our last session, we took a look at Sketch Engine, a nice tool to help you with your writing. As the original idea was to work with COCA - but we couldn't because of technical problems - I'll soon be uploading the step by step to it and to Sketch Engine as well.

For now, here's the link to Sketch Engine: https://old.sketchengine.co.uk/open/

    And to COCA: https://www.english-corpora.org/coca/

    See you next week!

      Reading Assignment: Information gathering Fichier
Last class, you all worked really hard on your theme statement. Now it's time to go out on the field and start gathering all the information you will need related to your idea. As we discussed in class, the gathering of information will not take only one week. It will probably accompany you during the whole writing process.

But for now, here's what you have to do for next class:

Read Hart's text about information gathering.

Start collecting the info you think you might need for now.

Our next class will begin with a discussion on the information gathering process and how, if this is the case, it helped you shape - or even re-shape - your idea.

Morning and Evening groups: refer to "tópico 9" for the texts you are supposed to read for session 9. Remember that, due to my going to Entrad, we are not having our class on-site. You are required to read the texts instead.

    2) Read Anzaldua's "How to tame a wild tongue" following Bunn's guidance on reading.

    3) Answer the "discussion" questions on page 85 in Bunn's text based on your experience after reading  Anzaldua's text. Attach the answers to your portfolio and make comments on how Bunn’s text has helped you with your writing (or not!).
