PROGRAMA JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVO Too many higher education institutions have rushed into online education without understanding the research that explores how to design effective collaborative learning environments online that utilize the networking capabilities of the Internet. This course will equip you with the essential background and skills for conceptualizing, designing, and developing online learning solutions for a variety of disciplines and organizations. The 2014 Horizon Report for Higher Education from the New Media Consortium and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative focused on the growing ubiquity of social media, and the integration of online, Hybrid, and collaborative Learning as future trends in higher education. This course will demonstrate how social media and online learning can support the advancement of collaboration to support trends in higher education This course will be offered using a hybrid format, both face-to-face and online to give students the experience of learning at a distance while they learn about the principles and techniques of online collaborative learning. The course addresses online education as a learning system and explores current practices and research trends. We will examine online collaborative learning theory, the characteristics and needs of diverse distance learners, how to design and assess collaborative learning environments, and how to support the distance learner. Using a community of practice model, the course will promote collaborative sharing of diverse learning experiences, and support learners in inquiry based collaborative learning online through e-mentoring. Goal: The goal of this course is to design develop online a short (4-6 week) collaborative learning experience for a selected discipline or organization using either the Moodle LMS or a combination of social media.
