This course will describe aspects of the urban environment and the climate in particular and place these in the context of a physical understanding of the causative processes. It will also focus on responses to urban hazards and the potential for achieving sustainability at these scales. The course will draw upon examples of urban hazards and responses from across the globe and uses a urban field-walks to link ideas in the course to personal experience of a physical environment that is substantially the product of human actions.
