Rationale:

Innovation is becoming more important for companies to survive. One of the key enablers for innovation is technology. Usually, innovation and technology management are treated as separate disciplines. This discipline deals with both in an integrated way. This approach allows organizations to get advantages of the synergy of both subjects and avoiding; therefore, a waste of organizational effort in seeking innovation. Innovation is closely related to strategic planning. Normally, if the organization intend to develop breakthrough offerings, it needs to rethink its business model, since many dimensions of the business might be affected by the innovation. This leads to business model innovation, which is an approach that supports paradigm changes and leverage companies in a new level of competitiveness.

Content:

Theoretical foundations of innovation management, macro and micro innovation approaches (focusing on the micro vision of innovation) and the challenges of innovation management (related to change management, leadership, people capacitation, creativity, strategic planning). Comparison with the theory of technology management. Product and service development, business model innovation, innovation dilemma, managing research and development, value proposition design, design thinking, servitization, Product-service systems (its relation sustainability, circular economy) , roadmapping, operation and process innovation, managing intellectual property, portfolio management, dynamic capability, organizational knowledge, open innovation, business / innovation case.

Type of Assessment:

Written tests, seminars, and practical tasks. The final grade will be calculated by the weighted average of the tests, seminars, and practical tasks.
