Prof. Marius Smit, B Com PGCE LLM PhD, is an Associate-Professor at the North-West University, Potchefstroom campus, South Africa. He is the chair of the Education Law subject group and teaches inter alia Education Law, Human Rights in Education, Democracy and School Governance.
He has 62 publications (i.e. peer reviewed articles, chapters and books) to his credit. Recently he received a C2 rating as a researcher with international standing at the National Research Foundation of South Africa.
He practised as an attorney in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Potchefstroom for 9 years. He presently serves on the National Executive Council of SAELA (SA Education Law Association) and the Potchefstroom Gimnasium school governing body.
He coaches school debating teams and adjudicates university student debating competitions. He is a keen scuba diver and lover of the outdoors. He is a qualified teacher (PGCE) as well as a Nature Conservator (DNatCo). He worked as a parks ranger for 7 years at Kruger National Park and Blyde Canyon Reserve. He is happily married to Colleen and adores his three children (Marco, Carissa and Reuben).
