We discuss the role of the Earth atmosphere on astronomical observations.

Preparing an Observing Proposal
In this class, we speak about how to write observing proposals.
Jorge Melendez has some very good slides here
http://www.astro.iag.usp.br/~jorge/aga5802/2018_02_writing_proposals.pdf
Most of Jorge’s sources (as well as mine) can be found at the end of this page http://amiga.iaa.es/ESOUsers/239-preparation-of-proposals.htm which, although a bit old, comes with several interesting tips.I have added three (accepted) proposals, two from OAJ and one from OPD.

Scheduling Observations
In this class, we learn how to schedule an observation. The basic rules of the game are:
1) think first!
2) order your targets by right ascension
3) try to observe always with the lower airmass
I don't have slides but only a video (sorry).
I also pass you the file with the coordinates of the targets used during the video.See you on 19th March @ 14h00

Scheduling (Advanced)
Here we try to schedule three nights with different Moon brightness and different weather conditions (but the same targets). -
Scheduling (Surveys)
In this lecture, we learn how to plan a survey be it of a few targets spread over the year or thousands of pointings that one can observe over many years.
I am attaching text files with a list of Solar Twins and the pointings of the J-PLUS survey (it has a tab extension but I swear it is a plane ASCII text file).

Test #1: Scheduling of Observations
In this test, you are requested to schedule three observing nights and one survey.
You can find all the instructions here:
