This course examines the ways gender and sexuality influence the experience of higher education and provides an introduction to useful feminist frameworks for the study of higher education. Gender disparities, institutionalized inequities, campus climates, the influence of gender and sexuality on leadership and governance will be explored. An emphasis will be placed on exploring the lived experience of women and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in higher education. This course will draw from feminist theory, masculinity studies, and queer theory. Discussions will be framed using an intersectional lens that considers race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, ability and other social identities, in addition to gender and sexuality
